“To be honest, when we first opened, we were not met with open arms. Because we are black-owned and in Pflugerville, a few people were really critical with us. We tried to keep positive and cater to what everybody wanted, but we realized we were losing our original purpose in the process. Kind of like the 80/20 rule, instead of focusing on the 20% who didn’t like us, we decided to focus on the 80% who did. So, we reminded ourselves to focus on the people and the food that they love us for - Chicago-styled and Southern comfort food. The kind of food that reminds people of their grandma’s cooking and their childhood.
We actually have a lot of family members that live in Chicago. My sister and brother moved to Pflugerville and they opened up here. Bahadi is actually my brother's middle name. It means ‘Good Luck’ in Swahili. We started by serving Chicago-style wings - inspired by the traditional concept of Harold’s chicken. So we kind of branched out on the market and tapped into all different types of Southern type of foods. My brother and sister still make the food so it has a unique flavor and taste that a lot of people love so it keeps them coming back. Our atmosphere strives to bring the community together through food, comfort, and live music. People often even held fundraisers here. We love getting involved in our community besides just being a restaurant and providing food for the population. Our environment is welcoming to all types. We’ve been open for three years now and are so grateful for our community.” - Shirin, Bahadi's Chicken & Lounge
